ELEMENTAL FIRE: Domain of the Heart; Realm of Passion & Emotion
The Element of Fire
Along With Its Fuel
Fire is raw.
It can be rude.
Biting. Searing. Blazing!
It flicks and licks and whips.
It is Crackle-POP! A log in the fireplace.
It is WHUMPH! Spark on dry tinder.
Fire ravages. Burns bridges.
It explodes to the sky and chars the very clouds!
It is the ravenous, noxious volcano!!
IT IS THE SUPERNOVA
RAGING OUT OF CONTROL!!!
Fire is the sacred ember.
It is the purifying light.
It is is the single candle
harboring hope in the blackest night.
Domain of the Heart
Warmth. Invitation. Comfort.
Fire is Home.
It is sunlight upon an upturned face.
The touch of a loved one and the warmth in our hand when we touch them back.
It is the heat of sensuality.
The very spark of the Life Force.
Fire is the thrill--both excitement and danger--of falling love for the first time. It is the racing pulse of flirtation, the awkward blush, the push-pull-yes-no dizzy-dance that consumes mind-body-life. It is the explosive catharsis of sexual awakening.
It is also the crushing weight of an imploded ribcage when it ends. It is the evisceration. The guts slopping out on the floor. The searing veins. The firestorm that rages through the mind when we know what we need to do--what is best for us to do but we just bloody can't.
Realm of Passion & Emotion
Grief, excitement, terror!
A full breath lets it hit.
Locking down the cage of the heart stops it from being expressed.
A held breath can stop it from even being felt.
EACH ELEMENT BUILDS UPON
THE FOUNDATION OF THE PREVIOUS ONE
There is a reason why many traditions caution emotion. "Guard your heart," they say. And there's something to that.
But with feet firmly grounded and alignment strong and stable...with the breath connected to the Highest Self--our best self--instead of being tossed and turned about in the disorienting storms of emotion, we can dare to let the ribcage move. We can dare to let the air flow in. With practice and patience, built upon a foundation of healthy support, we can withstand feeling what we feel--whatever we feel--and we can even dare to express it.
Anger merely shows me where my boundaries are being crossed. It is fuel to launch me into action and protection. Grief merely shows me what I have lost and it warns me that I need to take time and space to mourn. Desire shows me where I'm yearning to connect. There are no "good" or "bad" emotions. There are only better and worse moments of expressing them. Better and worse ways of doing so in any given moment.
I'm not a proponent of stuffing. Stifling. Choking off emotion. If you've poked around my blog for half a minute, that will be obvious.* I am an avid devotee of committing lots of practice to this volatile and risky element, and of using the others to help me learn to control it. Duh--I'm a Fire Sign.
🎶 Sometimes I match my music to my mood. Other times, when I would prefer to change the mood I'm in, I use music to change the channel of my emotional landscape like changing channels on the radio.

Progression of how the Elements build upon each other: using the grounding learned in Earth for the strength to attack the moves, controlling energy expenditure with the Breath, following the natural pathways for speed and efficiency, and sending the energy through the core for the extra zap of heat.

and some revolutionary ways of thinking about it -

Weather the storm. Burn it all down. Get splattered 9 times; get back up 10. Then transform the feces into fertilizer & fuel: make raw art. 🔥😈🔥
